U.S. Rep. Harold “Hal” Rogers successfully secured a $45 million earmark for Somerset’s Northern Bypass, as part of the federal Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024. The new road will link the Hal Rogers Parkway to the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway, creating opportunities for economic development and tourism. Rogers expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This new bypass is the next step to creating a four-lane expressway through our region to generate more economic development and tourism opportunities, with safer and more accessible roads.”

State Senator Rick Girdler from Somerset commended Rogers for his efforts, emphasizing the significance of the funding in advancing the bypass project. Girdler stated, “The funding he has secured will be critical in getting this bypass project done.” Additionally, State Rep. Ken Upchurch highlighted the importance of the project, stating, “The federal funding that Congressman Rogers secured is a perfect example of his continued commitment to our region.”

Pulaski County Judge Executive Marshall Todd expressed gratitude towards Congressman Rogers for including the county government in the project, emphasizing the importance of the Northern Bypass in creating connections across Southern Kentucky. Todd mentioned, “Beyond Pulaski County, this funding will facilitate an East-West highway system across Southern Kentucky. It will provide connections from I-65 to I-75 and economic growth opportunities from Paducah to Pulaski to Pikeville.”

In total, Congressman Rogers secured 15 Community Project Funding earmarks in the FY24 Consolidated Appropriations Act, totaling nearly $86 million. The congressman's efforts in securing funding for the Northern Bypass and other projects in Southern and Eastern Kentucky demonstrate his dedication to improving infrastructure and promoting economic development in the region.
